Septoplasty
Septoplasty is a surgery that is performed in cases where the nasal septum is deviated, allowing good nasal breathing in the case of nasal obstruction due to septal deviation. It does not change the shape of the nose, except in certain cases the shape of the nostrils when they are very different from each other due to the deviated septum that has deformed them: in this case it is possible to make them quite similar. There are different techniques to be applied depending on the severity of the deviation, therefore also the surgical effort, and therefore the duration and complexity of the operation can be highly variable: it can range from a simple removal of a small bone or cartilage segment, to an almost total remodeling of the entire septal structure. We will give information that every patient interested in this surgery needs to know:
- It is performed under general anesthesia
- The post-surgical does not hurt
- Surgery is performed in the morning and the patient can be discharged in the afternoon.
- Septoplasty is performed with the use of endoscopes without scarring or external bruising
- In most cases, nasal plugs are not necessary in the post-operative period.
- The nose on the outside does not suffer modifications
- After 14 days, aerobic exercises can be performed as long as there is no risk of hitting the nose. Contact exercises can be performed after one month.
